Malaika Queaño

As Program Assistant at WBEC Metro NY, Malaika works closely with the Certification Manager to support the processing of WBE and WOSB application files for WBENC certification, correspond with applicants, conduct site visits, and help applicants through the certification process. She also supports the Director of Service Delivery in outreach for diversity and small business procurement suppliers to further build a network of resources available for women entrepreneurs throughout the Tri-state region.

Malaika’s past experience includes managing cultural arts programming, organizational development, and fundraising at Kinding Sindaw Heritage Foundation, Inc. She also handled the preservation project archive of over 1000 videotapes that covered 30 years of world dance for Lotus Music and Dance. As an application engineer, she developed online technical resources and supported implementation of custom ferromagnetic designs as well as manufacturing workflow for Fair-Rite Products Corp. Additionally, she has worked as a community organizer and cultural artist of southern Philippine, classical Indian, and Indonesian dance.

Malaika has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from State University of New York at New Paltz and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree. In 2018, she was declared the Royal Cultural Envoy to NY by the Sultan Kudarat Descendants Organization of the Philippines and continues to spread awareness of her indigenous Filipino Muslim roots through dance and music performances throughout the Northeast.

As a member of the overseas Filipino and Maranao indigenous community, Malaika is active in the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns and supports local initiatives dedicated to empowering low-income communities of color.
